Fines for Failing to Comply

Since the 1st July of 2021, when a brand new, renewed or varied tenancy is signed on a Taradale rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items need to be taken care of by the end of 90 days.

It is important to note that landlords who have multiple rental properties could face even higher fines for non-compliance. The harshest penalties are handed down only for serious violations, and landlords who own six or more properties could be penalised up to $50,000, and even as high as $100,000 in hearings.

Tenancies that were signed between 1 July 2019 to 30 , June 20,21

  • The insulation of the ceiling and underfloor is mandatory in all Taradale and New Zealand rental houses where it is reasonably practicable to put in.
  • A Healthy Homes Declaration of Intent as well as an Insulation Statement, and an Insurance Statement should be included in any renewal, new or modified tenancy agreement.

Rental properties in Taradale need to have a stable source of heat that can warm the largest or main living space to at least 18degC even on the most coldest days of the year.
