Fines for Failing to Comply

As of 1st July 2021, if a new, renewed or varied tenancy is signed on a Taradale rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance items have to be taken care of by the end of 90 days.

Taradale Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies that were signed in the period between July 1st 2019 to the 30th June in 2021

  • Ceiling and underfloor insulation is compulsory for all Taradale and New Zealand rental houses where it’s reasonably practicable to put in.
  • A Healthy Homes Intent to Comply Statement along with an Insulation Declaration and an Insurance Statement must be included in any renewed, new or varied tenancy agreement.
  • Property managers and landlords have to keep records that prove the conformance to the Healthy Homes Standards that apply or will be applicable throughout the tenancy period of their rental properties.

Starting 1 July 2021

  • Private landlords and property managers should ensure their rental properties conform with the Healthy Homes Standard within 90 days of a renewal, new or a change in lease.
  • All boarder homes (except Kainga Ora and Community Housing Providers with registered for boarding home tenancies) must meet the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the time the tenancy began.

From July 1st 2023

  • All households that are rented out by Kainga Ora (formerly Housing New Zealand) and Community Housing Providers that are registered must meet the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date when the tenancy started.

From 1 July 2024

  • All rentals houses must comply with the Healthy Homes Standards regardless of the date when the tenancy started.

Heating Taradale

Taradale rental properties should have a permanent heating source which can warm the living room to at least 18 degrees Celsius, even on the coldest winter days.
