Fines for Failing to Comply

From the 1st of July in 2021, if a new or renewed tenancy is signed on a Meeanee rental property, all Healthy Homes compliance work have to be finished by the end of 90 days.

It is crucial to note that a landlord with multiple rental properties could face more severe penalties for not complying. The most severe penalties are given only for serious violations. Those who have six or more properties could be penalised up to $50,000 and as high as $100,000 in the case of hearing claims.

Meeanee Healthy Homes Compliance Timeframes

Tenancies signed beginning on 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2021

  • Insulation of the underfloor and ceiling is required throughout Meeanee and New Zealand rental homes where it is reasonably practicable to install.
  • A Healthy Homes Declaration of Intent An Insulation Statement as well as an Insurance Statement should be included with any renewed, new or varied tenancy agreement.

From July 1st 2024

  • All rentals homes must comply with the Healthy Homes Standard regardless of the time of the first day of tenancy.
